Last Song: Home to Me by Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Got the whole album after hearing it on @words-writ-in-starlight's Kencyrath playlist!
How dare you love me like you've never known fear When you've got more troubles than minutes in the year And a voice like your father's tells you nothing good's for free Well that may be, but you're walking home to me
Currently Watching: Brain not currently accepting video input? Really wanna finish Spy x Family and watch Nimona tho. And Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Currently Reading: Uhhh. Uhhhhhhh.
Non-fiction (Academic)- Collecting, Preserving, and Interpreting the History of Electronic Games by Jon-Paul C. Dyson for an essay I should be writing about the "discourse community" around archiving video games and connected materials
Non-fiction (Leisure)- Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries by Kory Stamper and The Billionaire's Vinegar by Benjamin Wallace (it's about wine fraud)
Fiction- direly tempted to, instead of writing my essay, start either In the Watchful City by S. Qiouyi Lu (an extrasensory human, Anima, starts to question ær job maintaining and protecting ær city when a cabinet of curiosities comes to town) (FUN PRONOUNS) or Tentacle by Rita Indiana (trans masc protagonist in the Dominican Republic tries to get transition drug and also prevent environmental disaster with time travel)
Fanfiction- where are they fucking hiding the Star Wars clone shenanigans. This fandom is massive why can't I find more CLONES and (this is important) co-dependence and polyamory. Anakin is a background character unless it gets me more Padme and Obi-wan being considerate and kind translating directly to bottoming has gotten old fast
Current Obsession: I have brainworms about GrimmIchi and have recently been consumed by Don't Starve Together (game).

The Fed welcomes a ‘soft landing’ even if many Americans don’t feel like cheering (AP) When Jerome Powell delivered a high-profile speech last month, the Federal Reserve chair came the closest he ever had to declaring that the inflation surge that gripped the nation for three painful years was now essentially defeated. And not only that. The Fed’s high interest rates, Powell said, had managed to achieve that goal without causing a widely predicted recession and high unemployment. Yet most Americans are not in the same celebratory mood about the plummeting of inflation in the face of the high borrowing rates the Fed engineered. Though consumer sentiment is slowly rising, a majority of Americans in some surveys still complain about elevated prices, given that the costs of such necessities as food, gas and housing remain far above where they were before the pandemic erupted in 2020. That disparity points to a striking gap between how economists and policymakers assess the past several years of the economy and how many ordinary Americans do.
Southern California heat wave to bring temperatures up to 119 degrees (Los Angeles Times) Southern California was bracing Monday for a heat wave expected to bring triple-digit temperatures to much of the region this week. Driven by weak offshore winds and a heat dome over the southwestern United States, temperatures are forecast to rise over the course of the week before peaking Thursday and Friday. Portions of the Los Angeles Basin could reach 113 degrees by the weekend while the mercury could climb to 119 in the Coachella Valley.
US government seizes plane used by Venezuelan president, citing sanctions violations (AP) The U.S. government has seized a luxury jet used by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that officials say was illegally purchased through a shell company and smuggled out of the United States in violation of sanctions and export control laws. The Dassault Falcon 900EX was seized in the Dominican Republic and transferred to the custody of federal officials in Florida, the Justice Department said Monday. The plane landed at Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport shortly before noon Monday, according to flight tracking websites. The plane, registered to San Marino, was widely used by Maduro for foreign travel, including in trips earlier this year to Guyana and Cuba. Venezuela’s government acknowledged the seizure in a statement Monday. It characterized the U.S. government’s move as “a repeated criminal practice that cannot be described as anything other than piracy.”
Venezuela issues arrest warrant for opposition leader Gonzalez (Reuters) Venezuela’s attorney general’s office said on Monday a court has issued an arrest warrant for opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, accusing him of conspiracy and other crimes amid a dispute over whether he or President Nicolas Maduro won a July election. The issue of an arrest warrant against Gonzalez would amount to a major escalation in Maduro’s government’s crackdown against the opposition following the disputed election. Venezuela’s national electoral authority and its top court have said Maduro was the victor of the July 28 election with just over half of the votes, but tallies shared by the opposition show a resounding victory for Gonzalez. The warrant follows weeks of comments from top government officials saying Gonzalez and other members of the opposition should go to jail.
Musk’s Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil (NYT) Elon Musk is doubling down on his fight with the Brazilian authorities. For weeks, the billionaire has refused to comply with Brazilian court orders to suspend certain accounts on his social network, X. He ignored fines and then fired X employees in Brazil so courts couldn’t hold them accountable. And then, after Brazil's Supreme Court ordered X blocked in the country, he suggested that Brazilians use software to circumvent the ban, despite the risk of large fines that a judge has threatened to impose for doing so. Now he is defying the Brazilian government again. Starlink—the satellite-internet service controlled by Mr. Musk that has 250,000 customers in Brazil—told the country’s telecom agency on Sunday that it would not comply with orders to block X, the agency’s president said. Alexandre de Moraes, the Brazilian Supreme Court justice who has led the action against X, froze Starlink’s assets in Brazil last week and blocked it from carrying out transactions in the country. He did so to try to collect on more than $3 million in fines against X for ignoring his orders to suspend accounts. Justice Moraes has accused X of spreading disinformation and hate speech.
Russian missile strike kills 50 people and wounds 235 in Ukrainian city of Poltava (AP) Two Russian ballistic missiles struck a military training facility and nearby hospital in a central-eastern region of Ukraine, killing at least 50 people and wounding 235 others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday. The strike occurred in the city of Poltava, the capital of the region of the same name, officials said. Poltava is located about 350 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Kyiv. The city is on the main highway and rail route between Kyiv and Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, which is close to the Russian border. The strike appeared to be one of the deadliest carried out by Russian forces since the war began more than 900 days ago on Feb. 24, 2022.
Russian leader Putin visits Mongolia and defies an international warrant for his arrest (AP) Russian President Vladimir Putin was visiting Mongolia on Tuesday with no sign that the host country would bow to calls to arrest him on an international warrant for alleged war crimes stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The trip is Putin’s first to a member country of the International Criminal Court since it issued the warrant about 18 months ago. Ahead of his visit, Ukraine called on Mongolia to hand Putin over to the court in The Hague. A spokesperson for Putin said last week that the Kremlin wasn’t worried. The warrant puts the Mongolian government in a tough spot. Member countries are required by the ICC’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute, to detain suspects if an arrest warrant has been issued. But Mongolia, a landlocked country bordering Russia, is highly dependent on its much larger neighbor for fuel and some of its electricity. The court lacks a mechanism to enforce its warrants.
Heavy monsoon rains and floods kill at least 33 in south India and 5 children in Pakistan this week (AP) Heavy monsoon rains and floods have killed at least 33 people in southern India and five children in Pakistan over the past two days, authorities said Tuesday. In India’s Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states, houses collapsed and were swept away by torrential downpours while floods disrupted road and rail traffic, officials said. The weather service issued a red alert for 11 districts, predicting more rains in the region, Telangana’s top bureaucrat, Shanta Kumari, said.
China's Ailing Economy (NYT) In 2004, as China’s economy was emerging as a global force, a group of researchers started conducting nationwide surveys asking Chinese people if they were better off financially than they were five years earlier. The percentage who felt wealthier climbed when surveyed five years later and again in 2014, when it reached a high of 77 percent. Last year, when respondents were asked the same question, that figure dropped to 39 percent. China’s economy is confronting a crisis unlike any it has experienced since it opened its economy to the world more than four decades ago. A few years ago, Beijing resolved to wean its economy from its dependence on an overheated real estate market, a sector that had underpinned the savings of families as well as China’s banking sector and local government finances. Now, the property sector is in crisis. Developers collapsed, leaving behind huge debts, a trail of failed investments, unsold apartments and lost jobs. Chinese consumers, already prone to saving heavily, have become even more frugal. Businesses have cut salaries and scaled back hiring. Millions of college graduates joining the job market are facing long odds and poor prospects. And China’s population has shrunk two years in a row. In a country where the majority of people had only known the economy to grow rapidly and living conditions to improve, confidence is eroding.
Pope opens Asia odyssey with stop in Indonesia (AP) Pope Francis arrived in Indonesia on Tuesday at the start of the longest trip of his pontificate, hoping to encourage its Catholic community and celebrate the tradition of interfaith harmony in a country with the world’s largest Muslim population. After an overnight flight from Rome, Francis was wheeled off the plane in his wheelchair and onto the tarmac for a welcoming ceremony under Jakarta’s perennial hazy, humid and polluted skies. Francis planned to rest for the remainder of the day, given the rigors of an 11-day voyage zigzagging across time zones that will also take him to Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore. Outside the residence, he was greeted by well-wishers eager to catch sight of the first pope to visit since St. John Paul II in 1989. Even though Catholics make up only 3% of Indonesia’s population, the sheer number of Indonesians—275 million—makes the archipelago home to the third-largest Christian community in Asia, after the Philippines and China.
BBC analysis shows rise of illegal outposts (BBC) A BBC investigation has looked into the increasing number of settlers' outposts in the occupied West Bank. There are currently at least 196 across the West Bank, and 29 were set up last year - more than in any previous year. Official figures for the number of outposts do not exist. The BBC reviewed lists gathered by Israeli anti-settlement watchdogs Peace Now and Kerem Navot—as well as the Palestinian Authority, which runs part of the occupied West Bank. The BBC has also analysed open source intelligence to examine their proliferation. The outposts - which can be farms, clusters of houses, or even groups of caravans—often lack defined boundaries and are illegal under both Israeli and international law. Experts say outposts are increasingly linked to violence and harassment towards Palestinian communities.
Netanyahu pushes back against new pressure over Gaza and hostages (AP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday pushed back against a new wave of pressure to reach a cease-fire deal in Gaza after hundreds of thousands of Israelis protested and went on strike and U.S. President Joe Biden said he needed to do more after nearly 11 months of fighting. “No one is more committed to freeing the hostages than me. ... No one will preach to me on this issue.” Key ally the United States is showing impatience. Biden spoke to reporters as he arrived at the White House for a Situation Room meeting with the U.S. mediation team in the negotiations. Asked if Netanyahu was doing enough, Biden responded, “No.” Hamas has accused Israel of dragging out months of negotiations by issuing new demands, including for lasting Israeli control over the Philadelphi corridor and a second corridor running across Gaza. Hamas has offered to release all hostages in return for an end to the war, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces and the release of a large number of Palestinian prisoners, including high-profile militants—broadly the terms called for under an outline for a deal put forward by Biden in July. Netanyahu has pledged “total victory” over Hamas and blames it for the failure of the negotiations.
Failed prison break (Foreign Policy) At least 129 people were killed on Monday during an attempted jailbreak at the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s main prison, officials said on Tuesday. Most of those killed died in a stampede, though authorities said security officials killed at least 24 inmates after firing “warning” shots. The incident took place at Makala Central Prison in the capital of Kinshasa. Several buildings sustained damage from fires and ransacking. Makala Central Prison has the capacity to hold no more than 1,500 people, but more than 12,000 inmates—many of whom are still awaiting trial—are currently jailed there in “appalling” conditions, according to an Amnesty International report published last year.

Deeply Specific and Very Long Ocean Liner Headcanon
So, most boats, ships, and vessels of every sort are normal - or as normal as a sentient seagoing vessel can be.
With one big exception
The Transatlantic Ocean liners were considered to be an odd bunch on the best of days, and got seemingly nuttier as years went on and ships got larger. While ships like the RMS Olympic might have had some personality quirks, moving on just 20 years brought about ships that were just eccentric.
Take, for example, the SS Normandie.
The pride of the French Line, the ship made a name for herself in the interwar years for being bigger, faster, more luxurious, and downright prettier than any other liner at sea. She took her appearance very seriously, and many of her initial eccentricities were missed under the assumption that she was vain, not nutty.
But nutty she was, and this became especially evident during The War.
Most French Line ships scattered to the four winds, running to any port who might protect them from the incoming German threat. Not Normandie, who called her fleetmates cowards and kept to her scheduled sailing dates until September of 1939, when she sailed into New York harbor and requested asylum for herself and her full complement of crew.
The Americans were more than willing to provide protection, but at a cost - Normandie would have to become a troop ship for the allied war effort. According to the vessel, she had been expecting this, but had been more than willing to do her part for the war effort.
That is, right up until the US Navy announced that they would be stripping her of her fine furnishings and painting her in dazzle camouflage. This was a line in the sand that Normandie  refused to cross, as she knew that the Americans would likely ‘appropriate’ her elegant art deco décor for its scrap metal content the instant it hit the dockside. She refused, and left immediately for the open ocean, opting to serve her native France in a different way.
What was that different way you might ask?
Well, first she sailed to the French Colony of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, intending to serve as the island’s supply ship in order to keep it from starved out by enemy U-Boats.
This plan lasted about a month, before a U-Boat sank another vessel virtually in front of her. Equipped with high-tech radar and many other navigational aids required for a safe transatlantic crossing, the infuriated liner bore down on the surfaced U-Boat and rammed it, sinking it instantly.
To quote the ship’s 2011 autobiography: “It was at that moment, surrounded by the oil and debris of my first kill, that I became a warrior. My mission - to destroy the enemy by any means possible.  None would escape me.“
Normandie would spend the rest of the second world war as a one-ship wolf pack in the Caribbean, chasing down and sinking any and all vessels - military or otherwise - flying the Axis flags.
A typical day for the Normandie was captured in the logs of the U.S.S Plymouth - which sighted the ship several times during a Convoy Escort mission in September 1942.
Log entry - Sept. 9 42 - sighted Periscope off port bow in early morning (approx. 09: 30) - dropped depth charges to no effect. Sub made attempt to torpedo convoy - missed by significant distance. Sub fled. No further sightings until after noon.
- Recon aircraft out of Guantanamo observed what appeared to be a German sub tender and Sub two hundred miles due east of Havana. Moved to intercept at 13:04 ship’s time.
-13:51 Sighted large contact on radar, moving fast to intercept from SW. Radar says that contact is bigger than any ship known to be in area.
-Large contact made no attempt to intercept - made beeline for approx. location of sub and tender. Crows nest observed a huge liner flying the French flag at 14:39.
-15:04 All ships visible - contact revealed to be liner Normandie - flying biggest French flag ever seen. Sub Tender - unknown freighter flying Italian flag- attempted to flee while sub dove. Liner lowered French flag to reveal equally large pirate flag and charged the sub - ramming it and sinking it at [COORDINATES CLASSIFIED]
- 15:12  rescue effort made on sub crew - 3 survivors. Normandie bound NNW in pursuit of sub tender.
- 18:26 rejoined convoy - prisoners in brig to be transferred to Guantanamo Bay.
- 23:11 sighted Normandie again. Received Aldis lamp  transmission from liner. “Two Sunk. Success.”
- 23:19 lost sight of Normandie.
At the war’s end, the Normandie had accumulated a whopping 37 confirmed kills of German, Italian, Japanese, and Vichy French vessels, making it one of the most decorated warships of either side had it been commissioned into any navy.
Following the war, Normandie resumed transatlantic services until she was replaced by the much larger SS France in 1962.
Now lacking anything to do for the first time in her long and illustrious life, Normandie elected to sail more or less for pleasure, spending several years sailing about the Caribbean in order to properly mark out her ‘kills’ to West German survey vessels, before circumnavigating the earth in the company of the SS United States, who had been retired following the collapse to the United States Lines in 1964.
Although both ships are immensely private about the nature of their relationship,  the addition of a gold band to each vessel’s lead funnel - a traditional sign of marriage - in 1972 did not go unnoticed.
Since then, both liners spent the tail end of the 20th century living lives of leisure punctuated by mild adventure.
in 1979, both ships attempted to evacuate residents of the Dominican Republic ahead of Hurricane David. They failed to do so, and were forced to ride out the storm at sea, reportedly reaching the eye of the storm in the process.
Following the attack on their close friend SS Atlantic Conveyor during the Falklands War, both ships led a flotilla of other retired liners in an effort to significantly hamper the Argentinian Navy’s assault on the islands. The success of this still debated, however it did show that the Normandie is not alone her ability to hunt down submarines, as the United States and the former German/French liner Liberté  successfully hunted down  and sunk the ARA Santa Fe during the conflict - much to the shock of all military forces involved, who had thought that the liners were joking when they began to participate.
In 1985, following the SS France’s abrupt ‘retirement’ from Norwegian Cruise Lines, (NCL had wanted to ruin France’s lines by adding more cabins on her upper decks - she refused and was shown the door) The United States and Normandie joined in a venture to provide even better cruises - so that they could beat NCL at their own game. The resultant company was one of the largest cruise lines in the world, and  was the highest valued travel stock in the world after its IPO in 1991, causing all three ships to become immensely wealthy when they sold the company to  Carnival Cruise Lines in 2000.
All three liners have left the public eye since the early 2000′s - becoming eccentric billionaires instead of eccentric vessels. Most sightings of the Normandie and United States have been in increasingly unusual places for them to go, like the Arctic, the Antarctic, the US Great Lakes, and even off the coast of Siberia. They claim that they’re just doing touristy things, but most of the world’s submarine fleet has doubts.

Cover: Brad Pitt Blindsided by Abuse Bombshell
Tumblr media
Page 2: Up Front & Personal -- former Vanderpump Rules hunk Jax Taylor hauling trash outside his L.A. home, tennis star Venus Williams had some courtside cuddles with her pet pup in Miami, sitcom star turned pot peddler Jim Belushi during a spin around Santa Monica
Page 3: Chrissy Metz runs errands in L.A., David Hasselhoff with his wife Hayley Roberts in Calabasas, Lena Headey buzzed around in L.A. on an electric bike
Page 4: Toxic TV talker Ellen DeGeneres is trapped in a tragic tailspin, belting back booze while struggling to get a grip on her fading career and rocky marriage -- after losing 1 million viewers this year alone, Ellen's once high-flying show is on thin ice and she's fighting with wife Portia de Rossi amid talks of a $300 million divorce -- her ratings are tanking, and her marriage is coming apart at the seams and she's knocking back the red wine to drown her sorrows -- her strategy is to let the storm about her talk show die down and then pull in some huge guest stars to win back her audience and reestablish herself as top dog on the talk show circuit -- at the same time, her 12-year marriage to Portia has been hanging by a thread and the two had been at loggerheads after serial house-flipper Ellen put the estate she bought from Maroon 5's Adam Levine on the market for $53.5 million and Portia thought it was finally going to be their forever home and it was like pulling the rug out from under her -- then another crisis struck home as Ellen rushed Portia to the hospital after she collapsed and Portia underwent an emergency appendectomy and is now recuperating but her spouse is a mess over Portia's health crisis and she's been drowning her sorrows in booze -- Ellen realizes much more than ever how much she desperately loves Portia and what she's got to lose if they split but she also knows it's be a lot of work to get the relationship back on track once Portia recovers
Page 5: Chevy Chase secretly cheated death after a secret heart condition landed him in the hospital for five long weeks and now he may never be out of the woods -- the 77-year-old, who is now recovering at his Westchester, N.Y. home, recently revealed the heart issue snuck up on him -- Chevy needed valve replacement surgery, and recovering boozer Chevy's long history of swilling alcohol had left him with an enlarged heart and acute cardiomyopathy, a disease that makes it harder for the organ to pump blood to the rest of his body and his heart problems stems from his years of drinking plain and simple and it's affected his heart, weakened it over the years -- however, before risky surgery could be performed, docs needed to make sure the comedian was stable enough for the procedure -- in 2017, Chevy claimed he'd finally gotten sober after one of his daughters said she gave up on him and his wife Jayni threatened to leave him if he didn't clean up his act but it may be too little too late for the comedy legend because valve replacement surgery could affect his activities for the rest of his life and it means his heart was pumping through an ineffective valve, and this damages heart muscles, which never grow back and he could have ongoing chest pains or dangerous heart rhythm disturbances, which could lead to heart attack or death
Page 6: Dr. Dre's estranged wife, Nicole Young, claims the rap mogul knocked her out cold in a drunken rage -- it's the latest bombshell in the couple's brutal divorce war, with Nicole making the explosive charge in an application for a restraining order that was denied by a judge and she also alleges Dre punched her squarely in the face after he felt she disrespected him at a party in 1999 and Nicole claims she woke up in their car with Andre speeding at over 100 miles per hour, drunk and out of control and he was swerving and weaving and she thought she was going to die and she also claims a drunk and angry Dre held a gun to her head during a 2012 dispute, saying she was terrified he was going to kill her -- Dre has denied all of Nicole's abuse claims
* In a desperate bid to save their crumbling romance, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are seeing a sex therapist to spice up their fizzling bedroom romps -- the duo called off their wedding plans after a stormy four-year affair and are on the brink of the end -- A-Rod staved off a break at the last minute by dashing down to the Dominican Republic, where J.Lo's filming her new flick and patching things up for the moment -- the biggest issue has been Alex's roving eye plus sexting various women on the side, and Jennifer wants to get to the bottom of why she's not enough for him
Page 7: Jeopardy! contestants want celeb medic Dr. Mehmet Oz axed as guest host -- casting the dubious doc celebrates the elevation of talking heads at the expense of academic rigor and consensus, according to a group of the game show's former winners and contestants in a letter -- the letter cites instances in which Dr. Oz used his authority as a doctor to push harmful ideas, and referred to a 2014 letter penned by faculty at Columbia Medical School, where Oz also teaches, calling for his removal from the program and the letter concludes inviting Oz to guest host is a slap in the face to all involved
Page 8: Jeffrey Epstein's accused madam Ghislaine Maxwell's third desperate bid to get out of jail on bail has been nixed by a federal judge -- the 59-year-old British socialite it rotting in a Brooklyn, N.Y. federal slammer denying charges she recruited underage girls to be sex slaves for her late lover Epstein, whose 2019 death in his jail cell is suspected on being a staged murder, despite an official ruling of suicide -- Maxwell's offer to plunk down $22.5 million and give up her citizenships in England and France was nixed by Judge Alison Nathan, who agreed with prosecutors the suspected Israeli intelligence asset was still a flight risk -- meanwhile, Ghislaine's lawyers claim she was abused by a guard and is losing hair and weight due to poor treatment in the slammer, where she's awaiting a July trail date
Page 9: Billionaire Queen Elizabeth is bracing for a big pay cut -- due to the financial crash triggered by the COVID pandemic, the Sovereign Grant, the tax money allowance the royals get, is expected to be slashed by more than 25 percent when it comes up for its five-year renewal in 2022 -- last year, Her Highness raked in $114.2 million from taxpayers, but that bundle was exceptional and cannot expect that to be repeated -- a major cost, besides allowances for the royal family, is a renovation of Buckingham Palace, which prices out at $500 million over 10 years -- one saving is Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have been stripped of their titles and public paychecks -- Her Majesty is aware of the current financial situation and is happy to play her part in cutting costs
* Prince Harry has landed a job as a hot-shot exec of a firm providing mental health and life counseling but it sounds like the tech start-up company is really using him as a celebrity showhorse -- Harry, who studied art and geography in college, will be Chief Impact Officer for BetterUp Inc, saying he intends to help create impact in people's lives -- BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux refused to say how much he's paying the prince, but noted Harry will have a meaningful and meaty role and will attend all employee meetings at the San Francisco headquarters and Robichaux also hinted at Harry's true value, saying he'll be a special guest at company events; in other words, the company will use him as a celebrity draw and they'll lure potential clients and investors to events by saying they can run shoulders with the prince and Harry has no psychology training; he will be a showpiece -- Harry first hooked up with BetterUp by using its app that gives proactive coaching and provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness and an all-around better life and Harry says he was matched with his coach who is truly awesome and has always given him sound advice and a fresh perspective, which is so valuable
Page 10: Lisa Marie Presley is getting back on track after her son Benjamin Keough's tragic suicide and bitter divorce from Michael Lockwood, but she's still a hopeless addict -- Elvis Presley's 53-year-old daughter smokes like a chimney from morning until night and is struggling for every breath and she goes through a pack or two a day minimum and she simply can't quit and she has cut out triggers like booze and coffee, but she still needs her cigarette fix from the moment she wakes up until she puts her head down at night -- she was snapped having a smoke outside a COVID-19 testing center in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley and it was the only time she was spotted in public since her son died in July -- she started smoking at age 15 and has admitted this is the one thing that got her and bit her in the ass that she can't shake even those she's kicked pain pills, cocaine, booze and opioids and she's tried everything she can think of to quit: patches, nicotine gum, going cold turkey, but nothing works and she did stop for a spell after being hypnotized but a day or two later she was lighting up again -- she's losing weight, exercising more and eating healthier, but her smoking habit is the elephant in the room
Page 11: Following the heart-crushing suicide of her brother, Elvis Presley's granddaughter Riley Keough has become a death doula, a counselor who helps terminal patients and their cope with the devastating trauma -- Riley announced she'd completed her training on social media -- the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and her first husband Danny Keough, Riley was devastated when her brother Benjamin Keough committed suicide with a shotgun last July -- spurred by the tragedy to become a death doula, Riley says she thinks it's so important to be educated on conscious dying and death the way we educate ourselves on birth and conscious birthing
* Reality TV train wreck Mama June Shannon claims she and her boyfriend Geno Doak spent $900,000 in a year to feed their drug addiction and the couple were spending $2500 a day, if not more, on methamphetamine -- June entered rehab with $1.75 in her pocket and they've been clean 14 months
Page 12: Celebrity Buzz -- reformed boozer Luann de Lesseps sips a soft drink in Mexico (picture), Real World star Rebecca Blasband believes she had an otherwordly 15-year beyond-the-grave relationship with Beatles legend John Lennon's ghost, in Australia a not so itsy bitsy spider bite turned into a giant wallop of a headache for Melissa McCarthy, Ilana Glazer and husband David Rooklin are happily expecting their first baby ironically right before of her horror movie False Positive, Sarah Silverman says no one ever told her not to use tongue in screen kisses and it got her fired from a show called Pride & Joy

Page 16: Cover Story -- Angelina Jolie is determined to paint her ex Brad Pitt as an abusive, drunken monster, and now she's got their kids backing her claim that he's the dad from hell -- the mom of six, who's been battling Brad in court over custody and money for five years, filed new bombshell papers saying she and her children want to testify their life was the pits -- while the documents are sealed, Angelina is making sure their kids paint Brad as violent and aggressive and her shocking charges continue earlier accusations by oldest child Maddox, now 19 and in college, who accused a booze-fueled Brad of abusing him on a private flight five years ago and Maddox essentially painted his dad as a demented monster and he went into detail about Brad's terrible temper, the abuse he inflicted on the whole household with his binge drinking and the scars that exist to this day because of the appalling way he alleges Brad treated his mom during the marriage -- Brad has reportedly been sober for years and Angelina's new claims of domestic abuse are basically a rehash of the old accusations -- legal experts also maintain the minor kids can only testify if Brad agrees to it, which is doubtful -- the superstars have spent a combined $10 million in legal fees and are currently battling over visitation rights for their brood and Angelina has refused to compromise, wants full custody and calls it a fight to the death and she doesn't care about Brad or how anybody sees their fight, she just wants what she feels she is entitled to as a mother and will fight with every inch of her body and soul to get it

* Furious perfume mogul William Lauder is battling to kick his former mistress Taylor Stein and their 13-year-old love child out of her home and into the street, because their supposedly secret love affair was revealed -- the big stink exploded after the 60-year-old Estee Lauder heir learned his secret teen daughter wrote on social media that her parents were divorced but actually, Lauder never wed Taylor, but kept her like a queen in a $7 million, 6000-square-foot Bel Air mansion with a $1 million annual allowance for years and the only condition was that she keep their affair and the child under wraps, but the Park Avenue playboy claims she blasted their pact to smithereens when his illicit daughter blabbed about the relationship online -- Lauder hooked up with Taylor in Aspen in 2000 while still wed to wife Karen, mom of three of his daughters -- he knocked Taylor up in 2005, but told her to get an abortion because he was then in the midst of divorcing Karen but three years before the 2009 divorce, Taylor got pregnant again and gave birth to their girl and that's when the moneybags lover boy drew up the hush-hush deal
Page 24: COVID vaccines hidden dangers -- scientists warn shots don't work and have nightmare side effects
Page 27: Gal rock roadie Tana Douglas is snitching on music superstars including George Harrison and Iggy Pop, who she got close to during her wild years traveling with bands -- in her book called Loud, she recalls her job hauling equipment for bands nearly ended at age 21 when Beatle George Harrison was ready to propose, but she blew it; the two were getting close under a kitchen table after George fled his own birthday party, where he was embarrassed by his present: strippers and she ruined the mood by firing up a cigarette and George told her he would marry her tomorrow if she gave up smoking but the first female rock roadie couldn't kick butts -- she has crazy stories about saving AC/DC's frontman Bon Scott when he overdosed, Elton John who did drugs and threw tantrums, The Go-Gos, and doing a line of coke with Iggy Pop intended for David Bowie
Page 28: Health Report
Page 30: Julianne Hough has plumped up her kisser, and her new look falls flat -- the newly single star may have gone overboard with lip fillers to the point where she's almost unrecognizable -- Julianne's had some surgical and nonsurgical things done, but her lips just look wonky and no one can understand why she'd do it because her lips looked fine to her friends and family, but Julianne obviously thought they needed more volume and clearly got carried away -- she's also totally gone overboard with the spray tanning and hair extensions and she ditched the short blond bob that suited her so well and now she's looking like a Kardashian -- her lips look a bit swollen, so it's possible they will settle down and her natural lip proportions appear to have changed, with her upper lip the same size as her lower lip
Page 32: Tori Spelling has got the marriage blues and she's been out and about without her wedding ring -- the 47-year-old mom of five was spotted buying veggies at Underwood Family Farms in California's Moorpark with her kids but minus husband Dean McDermott and her wedding ring -- Tori's fed up with her mate, whining he's not doing his share around the house or paying her enough attention and they've found themselves in a real rut where they spend less and less time together and barely mention one another on social media and they haven't had a date night since goodness knows and Dean is never in the romantic mood and lately, they're more like brother and sister than husband and wife -- Tori wants Dean to step it up and start acting like a hubby instead of a leach and Tori's exhausting herself by taking care of the domestic chores single-handedly at times while Dean has other things on his mind and he hasn't picked up a vacuum or washed the dishes in weeks and sometimes he doesn't seem to be aware she's in the room and it's frustrating her to no end -- ditching her ring is sending Dean a very clear message that he needs to stop taking her for granted and work on the marriage
* Paul McCartney dove deep into his Beatles past and emerged with a children's book inspired by the group's 1966 hit Yellow Submarine -- Grandude's Green Submarine, a sequel to Paul's picture book Hey Grandude, will be released in September and changes the color of the submerged vessel
Page 36: Reality TV momager Kris Jenner is worth an estimated $190 million and masterminded the megabucks careers of her reality star daughters, but she confesses she was clueless about dough when she became divorced -- Kris confesses first husband Robert Kardashian handled everything and she never paid a bill during their 13-year marriage that ended in 1991 -- she said she woke up to responsibilities that she didn't have the day before but she says she's a quick study and she knew she had to get it together and she felt such an enormous sense of accomplishment to be able to figure it all out and pay her own bills and make her own money and do her own taxes and there were times when she didn't have a lot of money, but she was very organized -- now she studies business for new opportunities and she's interested in different businesses and how they evolve and how they become successful and she just enjoys the business world
* Bobby Brown's son Bobby Jr. died after accidentally overdosing on a killer cocktail of alcohol, cocaine and fentanyl, his autopsy reveals, but lawmen say they are now opening a criminal investigation into the 27-year-old's death at his father's home in suburban L.A. -- the autopsy report showed in his final hours Bobby Jr. consumed a deadly mix of tequila, cocaine and the prescription medication Percocet -- he was Brown's second child with former galpal Kim Ward
Page 38: Long-lost letters written by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler's father, Alois, reveal the freaky Fuhrer grew up to be a cruel, tyrannical, arrogant lout, just like his old man -- the 31 letters were discovered by retiree Anneliese Smigielski in the attic of her house in the Austrian town of Wallern and are the basis of a new book by historian Roman Sandgruber -- penned to Anneliese's great-great-great-grandfather Joseph Radlegger, who sold retired customs official Alois a farm when future Nazi monster Adolf was six in 1895, the letters reveal Hitler's dad was a brutal boozer and boss of the house, but depended on the skills and money of his third wife, Klara, a former servant girl the cheating creep had seduced and wine-guzzling Alois was awfully rough with her and beat little Adolf and the other eight kids -- like his father, Adolf felt superior through the knowledge he had acquired in self-study and he saw himself as a military, technical and artistic genius, not only as a painter, but also as an architect, writer, composer and actor
Page 40: Bethenny Frankel is sporting an engagement ring from fiance Paul Bernon -- the three-stone ring features a huge eight- to ten-carat emerald-shaped center stone and if it's a real, natural diamond, its estimated value is up to $1 million
* Gwyneth Paltrow just babbled something her second husband, Brad Falchuk, probably doesn't want to hear: she never wanted to get divorced from Chris Martin but she wed Brad in 2018 and Gwyneth calls him the most amazing man adding they've built something that she's never had before
* Suzanne Somers brags she and husband Alan Hamel are having sizzling sex three times a day before noon -- she blames doses of hormones for their frisky urges in their golden years

* The faith-based Duggar family of 19 Kids and Counting fame is still feuding after a sleazy sex scandal ripped them apart -- Jill Duggar Dillard, who's outed herself as one of four sisters molested by big brother Josh Duggar, reveals she hasn't visited her parents' home in years -- Jill and husband Derick Dillard, say they aren't allowed at Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's Big House without her father's permission and Jill reveals there's some restrictions but also they just feel like they have to prioritize their mental and emotional health -- TLC axed the family's show after Josh was exposed as a child molester and in the past, Jill's admitted she's not on the best terms with some of her family
Page 42: Kim Kardashian has been getting back in touch with her body big-time now that she has booted Kanye West from her bedroom and her life and she's been strolling around totally nude -- with the pair's six-year marriage officially kaput, Kim is gleefully letting it all hang out, while indulging in once-forbidden McDonald's french fries -- Kanye made a habit of telling Kim to cover up and picked her to pieces for wearing sexy outfits and he said she needed to class up her act and grow old gracefully but now she's free to express herself and a lot of the time, especially when Kanye's looking after the kids, she's walking around totally in the nude and it's liberating for her to be at one with her body and she's made no secret of her desire to pursue a racy image and right now Kim's priority is to get her mojo back and learn to love herself again physically
* Britney Spears confesses she's been so wrapped up in battling the conservatorship over her estate, she forgot about singing until her mom reminded her -- the singer hasn't cut an album for five years as she's battled dad Jamie Spears for control of her $60 million fortune after a court gave him control when she went bonkers in 2008 -- she now realizes she's neglected her career after mom Lynne Spears sent her a video of her signing You Got It All at a '90s concert in Singapore and Britney tweeted that her mom reminded her that she can sing and she never sings anymore

By any chance, do you have any facts/stories about Reina you haven’t found the chance to share yet? She’s such an amazing and interesting character and I’d love to know more about her!
OMG Thank you so much AAA. I’m glad you like my gal!
Tumblr media
There’s just SO MUCH I haven’t gotten around to yet. Some include why her 5th year became so stressful, and some consist of what she was up to after graduating, especially the Second Wizarding War. I got an ask about the latter many months back and I legit forgot to get to it lol I’ll just summarize them here and keep them as brief as possible. As I tend to repeat myself without realizing, sorry ahead of time for potential repetitiveness lol
I’ve had these planned ahead of time for a very good while, but like with many projects, often forgot about them. That, and with my self imposed insistence to accompany all my written stuff with drawn pics to make it more visually interesting, I also forget. I have stuff that’s been sitting in my drafts for well over a year I think XD
For relevancy, I’ll just cover some of her school years and what she does after graduating, but before the Second Wizarding war. Otherwise this post would be REALLY long.
3rd Year
-All members of the clan she comes from, Caelestis (meaning celestial), have a distinct birthmark on the right side of their abdomen consisting of three 8-pointed stars arranged in a v-shape.
-Merula exposed her Pureblood heritage to the school. Since Reina’s a descendant of a very prestigious Pureblood clan, and they’re the equivalent of billionaires, a number of Pureblood families (several of the Sacred 28 among them) began to send her a number of very luxurious gifts to win her favor.
-Some went as far as offering their eldest sons for her hand in marriage. In order to get out of this chaos, she gave a believable story that a boy her age had already been chosen for her back in the Dominican Republic before she started school. It worked and all of it stopped.
-In the end, this is what would save her life during the Second Wizarding War, as it’s what prevented her from being targeted and killed by the Death Eaters.
5th Year
-Her refusal to work with Rakepick divided her friends a bit. She was still trying to break the curse, but didn’t want to be anywhere near the woman since she always gave off malice.
-Wanting to earn Rakepick’s favor as much as possible, Merula went as far as forming a (VERY) short alliance with Emily Tyler and had the girl spread some rumors about Reina to try and ruin her credibility. Rumors consisted of Reina only getting involved with the vaults for personal glory, and refused to work with Rakepick due to seeing the woman as competition. Reina was unaffected by the rumors so they fizzled out pretty quickly.
-Penny took Reina’s refusal to work with Rakepick in the worst possible way (with some manipulation from Merula) and lashed out at Reina in the middle of the Hufflepuff Common Room for all to see. They were celebrating their Quidditch team’s second win of the season, so to see such a sight unfold was rather jarring for them to say the least.
-It’s what would continue to Reina’s eventual stress-induced breakdown, leaving her vulnerable for months afterward. In a nice moment of karma, Merula was left with the responsibility of creating the chaos Peeves wanted to win his favor and secure the painting they needed, something she came to regret pretty damn quick especially since almost no one else wanted to work with her.
Post Hogwarts
-Got married to Talbott in a private ceremony in early 1994. Those in attendance were family and close friends.
-She opened her own bakery in the summer of that year, called the Crystal Ball Bakery in Diagon Alley. A majority of her staff consisted of House Elves she made sure were treated well and paid well. They also wore proper work uniforms instead of rags.
-She’d meet Harry and Hermione for the first time while they did their shopping for their upcoming 4th Year. She had already met Ron when she was invited to the Burrow for Christmas all the way back in her 2nd Year. Harry and Hermione took a shine to her pretty quickly, and came to understand why Reina was seen as an honorary Weasley.
Thank you so much for wanting to know more about Reina! :D If you have other questions please lemme know!

Major General Smedley Darlington Butler (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940), was a United States Marine Corps major general, the highest rank authorized at that time, and at the time of his death the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.

Quotes Edit
War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses.
From a speech (1933)
I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
From a speech (1933)
I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.
From a speech (1933)
War is a racket. It always has been.
I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
From a speech (1933)
"My interest is, my one hobby is, maintaining a democracy. If you get these 500,000 soldiers advocating anything smelling of Fascism, I am going to get 500,000 more and lick the hell out of you, and we will have a real war right at home."
Reply to Gerald MacGuire, after being asked to organize WWI veterans (for military support) in a fascist-coup of FDR, as related by Butler in testimony before Congress, 1934. A reporter (a Butler confidant) testified MacGuire said, "We might go along with Roosevelt and then do with him what Mussolini did with the King of Italy." Which was, made him a figure-head.
War is a racket (1935) Edit
Full text online
War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.
A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.
In the World War [I] a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.
How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets?...How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?
Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few -- the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.
And what is this bill? This bill renders a horrible accounting. Newly placed gravestones. Mangled bodies. Shattered minds. Broken hearts and homes. Economic instability. Depression and all its attendant miseries. Back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.
For a great many years, as a soldier, I had a suspicion that war was a racket; not until I retired to civil life did I fully realize it. Now that I see the international war clouds gathering, as they are today, I must face it and speak out.
But what does it profit the men who are killed? What does it profit their mothers and sisters, their wives and their sweethearts? What does it profit their children? What does it profit anyone except the very few to whom war means huge profits? Yes, and what does it profit the nation?
There are 40,000,000 men under arms in the world today, and our statesmen and diplomats have the temerity to say that war is not in the making. Hell's bells! Are these 40,000,000 men being trained to be dancers?
A few profit – and the many pay. But there is a way to stop it. You can't end it by disarmament conferences. You can't eliminate it by peace parleys at Geneva. Well-meaning but impractical groups can't wipe it out by resolutions. It can be smashed effectively only by taking the profit out of war.
The normal profits of a business concern in the United States are six, eight, ten, and sometimes twelve percent. But war-time profits -- ah! that is another matter -- twenty, sixty, one hundred, three hundred, and even eighteen hundred per cent -- the sky is the limit.
Of course, it isn't put that crudely in war time. It is dressed into speeches about patriotism, love of country, and "we must all put our shoulders to the wheel," but the profits jump and leap and skyrocket -- and are safely pocketed.
I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
What business is it of ours whether Russia or Germany or England or France or Italy or Austria live under democracies or monarchies? Whether they are Fascists or Communists? Our problem is to preserve our own democracy. And very little, if anything, has been accomplished to assure us that the World War was really the war to end all wars.
Yes, we have had disarmament conferences and limitations of arms conferences. They don't mean a thing. One has just failed; the results of another have been nullified. We send our professional soldiers and our sailors and our politicians and our diplomats to these conferences. And what happens?
The professional soldiers and sailors don't want to disarm. No admiral wants to be without a ship. No general wants to be without a command. Both mean men without jobs. They are not for disarmament. They cannot be for limitations of arms. And at all these conferences, lurking in the background but all-powerful, just the same, are the sinister agents of those who profit by war. They see to it that these conferences do not disarm or seriously limit armaments.

Over the years, the Order has become a popular topic for movies, novels, websites, and even video games. From the Great Depression, which was ultimately necessary, to world wars. In many people’s minds, the Order idea ties in with the New World Order, a current political idea about a one-world government, religion, and financial system. The New World Order is…

FLASH REPORT THIS MORNING: A Lone Bettor in California wins a record breaking Powerball Billionaire Jackpot of U$D2.040B (PHP119B) [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
ALTADENA, CALIFORNIA -- The final record-breaking Powerball billionaire jackpot prize in the United States of America (U.S.A.) ends here in a local suburb of Altadena after he or she was recently bought a ticket, just before the store opens at 6am (November 8th, 2022 -- Pacific local time). A store owner reportedly sold a ticket at the Joe's Service Center in West Woodbury Road, the said suburb and a state of California.
Tumblr media
This was just made history as the state lottery's first-ever billionaire after matching all 5 white numbers plus the red Powerball. Before that, there were a technical difficulties last Monday night (November 7th, 2022) due to one of the state's inability to deal with the huge amount of ticket sales data. Minnesota Lottery is the only culprit to delay the drawing for a single night and was slightly rigged for several hours per sales verification system to ruin the integrity of it as WCCO-TV's CBS 4: Minnesota reported.
Powerball officially rescheduled the next morning on Tuesday at 9:01am (Eastern local time) at a flagship lottery studios in Tallahassee, Florida, U.S.A. where the drawing takes place as pre-recorded in the early morning according to USA Mega. The final winning numbers are: 10-33-41-47-56 and the Powerball number is [10], while the Power Play multiplier concludes to 2x. An estimated jackpot prize as final to U$D2.040B (PHP119B).
KTTV-TV's FOX 11: Los Angeles was first reported and exclusively confirmed before lunchtime as the lottery officials in California receives an instant selling bonus of U$D1M (PHP58.330M) for selling the said winning ticket, leaving his or her lone bettor in California will soon come forward since the West Coast does not really allow to have it remain anonymous to claim the jackpot prize whether the lump sum of U$D997.6M after taxes (PHP58.2B) or annuity payments in full for 3 decades worth U$D68M (PHP3.966B) without any more explanation or questions asked.

Altadena store owner name Joseph Chahayed, who was owned and operated to Joe's Service Center for the past 20 years with a press release statement, "I would like to thank all the community (who) support me. I encourage you to buy a ticket from this station... You're going to be a winner too. I will share it with the family, with my kids, my grandchildren, I have 11 grandchildren, and I have to share with them". His original hometown formerly originated from Syria in the 1980s to seek a better life.
Tumblr media
Joseph and his family worked hard to open and manage their own store as an immigrant themselves per KTLA-TV 5 reported.
Here in our country and some parts of the world with consolation prizes at 'theLotter', 2 Filipino individuals have hit the 3 or 4 numbers including Power Play multiplier. The following countries and prizes are: *Mexico, Brazil, Dominican Republic and the Philippines (1 simultaneous winners worth U$D100 [PHP5,833.00]) *India (1 solo winner worth U$D168.09 [PHP9,804.70]) *Brazil (1 solo winner worth U$D200 [PHP11,666.00]) *Oman (1 solo winner worth U$D207.88 [PHP12,125.64]) and *Philippines (1 solo individual winner worth U$D263.86 [PHP15,522.90])
The billionaire jackpot was the largest ever for Powerball and the largest in American lottery history. The overall odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are just 1 in 292.2 million. The ticket will now valid within a year or as later forfeited by early next Christmas in 2023.
The local win marks the first time the California Lottery has doled out a jackpot topping the said selling bonus amount to a single suburb winner.

Saturday Morning Coffee
Tumblr media
I’d set aside so many articles to link to this morning, I can’t link to all of them.
This week has been full of great tech news, but it’s been eclipsed by tragedy, on so many fronts. I tried not to be too much of a downer, but I may have failed miserably.
Variety: “Ray Liotta, the acclaimed actor known for “Goodfellas,” “Field of Dreams” and many more roles, has died at 67, Variety has confirmed with his publicist. He died in his sleep while he was in the Dominican Republic shooting an upcoming film, ‘Dangerous Waters.’”
We’ve lost another film legend. My favorite Ray Liotta film is Field of Dreams. I liked him as a good guy, even though he’s probably best known as a hard nosed gangster.
When he drops the line “No, Ray, it was you” in Field of Dreams I turn into a blubbering mess.
I also really liked him in Cop Land, Hannibal, and Identity. The scene in Hannibal when Lecter is serving his own brain to him is horrible and funny all at the same time.
Fortune: “‘It was a joke,’ says Sam, 40, who asked to be identified by his first name only to protect his job and privacy. But the idea has stuck with him for months now. He’d love to open his own little coffee or cheese shop, he says, envisioning hosting wine tastings on Saturday nights.”
I’d still love to own a coffee shop. When the question of “What would you do” pops up my answer is always the same.
I’d love to own a coffee shop. ☕️
Puck.news: “In recent years, as media companies have taken greater interest in the rapidly-growing gaming industry, Wilson and Electronic Arts have held talks with a number of different potential suitors, including Disney, Apple and Amazon, sources with knowledge of those talks told me.”
Of course I’m linking to this because Apple is mentioned as a possible suitor. I can’t see it. Apple has never been into hard core gaming.
On the flip side I could see this if, and it’s a big if, they decide they’re going to make a bigger play for the home entertainment market and ship a super beefy Apple TV box with awesome gaming specs and create wonderful controllers.
I still can’t see it.
Grub Street: “Atla’s horchata latte is half a shot of espresso mingled with the rice-based, cinnamon-scented drink that’s familiar to anyone who has ever been to a taco truck.”
Horchata is an absolute favorite of folks I knew in the San Joaquin Valley. There is a large Mexican influence in the Valley. That, in turn, means we had wonderful Mexican foods all over the place.
Mexican folks know how to live and it starts with family and ends with food. Perfect combination.
GQ: “That’s because testosterone levels can be affected by many factors. Getting eight hours of sleep or correcting a nutritional deficiency, like a low level of vitamin D, will restore your testosterone to its natural baseline. Strength training, looking for ways to decrease stress, and cutting out smoking are also key.”
There was a point in my 30’s and into my early 40’s where I was a gym rat. I loved working out. For me it was all about heavy weights. I didn’t care to have pretty muscle, I wanted to be able to carry a small country on my back.
When I got into my 40’s I started having trouble recovering from my workouts. I now know I was overtraining, but I also discovered my testosterone levels were low. Ultimately I stopped working out. One of my many flaws is going all in on things. Once I feel I can no longer be all in, I’m done with it. That was a mistake, and it shows.
Moral of the story for me is: low T is part of aging. Keep moving and find something you love to stay in shape.
I still don’t have a good exercise routine.
Robert Reich: “Billionaires are mounting a class war. Republican lawmakers are mounting a culture war to deflect attention from it.”
I’ve never understood the absolute need for power some people have. Most of the new class of billionaires are all about power the way I see it. Musk and Thiel come across as very libertarian, but each fail the sniff test when it comes to power. They want to control what the government does and doesn’t do.
I don’t care for that.
Jalopnik: “Tesla CEO and adorable optimist Elon Musk gave the world what they wanted and confidently predicted that Tesla would achieve ‘full self-driving’—a term usually understood to refer to SAE Autonomy Levels 4 and 5, requiring no monitoring or input from whomever is in the car—less than a year from now. This makes the ninth year in a row he’s predicted full FSD coming in around a year! It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
After watching Elon Musks Crash Course it really seems like Musk is just another grifter. He has the gift of charm and an army of followers that worship at his feet.
Ultimately, he may not be the genius every believes him to be.
For me, the court is still out, but I’m now leaning “not a genius.”
Daring Fireball: “An astonishing and infuriating tale of maternal love and heroism, and police cowardice and incompetence.”
I think everyone who knows anything about me knows I want stricter gun laws. The tragedy in Uvalde solidifies my stance even deeper in my brain.
Oh, and that GOP talking point of a “good guy with a gun” was bullshit all along, but now, now we have evidence it doesn’t work, at all.
The “good guys” with guns sat outside the school while children were dying. Where’s the bravery we hear about from empty suit politicians?
It didn’t exist on that day and children died because of it.
Greg Abbott signed a law changing a federal law so long guns can be purchased by 18 year olds in Sept 2021, the start of this very school year. Shooter buys AR15 soon after turning 18 in May of 2022, owns the gun for less than two weeks before using it to commit a massacre.

Michael Tsai: “SwiftUI in 2022”
Apple released SwiftUI in 2019. Here we are, three years on, and folks are struggling to build deep applications.
I know from experience SwiftUI is great for building simple UI. Even then you run across behaviors that are hard to wrap your brain around.
The state of it really makes me wish Apple had held off for a few years, but time marches on and I’d imagine they had to show people the future or risk never being able to ship SwiftUI as the new way.
Oh, one other observation. The name, SwiftUI, is bad. Giving it a better marketing name would’ve been better.
We have Cocoa, Combine, and Catalyst to name a few. Then you have SwiftUI. It just feels wrong.

I feel like powerful men with questionable morals who really just want what is best for their family, is an on-going theme on your blog. Nico, Nicky, Remy and now Leader Haven. It's interesting really, because they are all very different in most other aspects, it was just something that I thought about while staring into my ceiling. Also, I don't really know what Leader Haven's deal is precicely yet, but that's the vibe I'm getting as of rn. Haven is great btw. I'm really digging it!
Definitely it’s an on-going theme in my stories! I don’t know if you ever read my first Simblr story, The Scotts, but Travis Scott was also a powerful man who dearly loved his wife but had a very questionable approach to the issues they had. I’m very drawn to men with power and how they balance that power with family and love, both in my stories and in real life. My maternal grandfather was a man in a position of power in the Dominican Republic and I draw a lot of inspiration from him and how he treated his wife and children. The men in my stories tend to be very macho/patriarchal, and that’s based on my Abuelo. My brother, who I’m very close to,  is an executive for a huge international shipping company and he had five kids he raised while moving his way up in the company, it was interesting watching him learn how to work at an executive level and also be a family man, a theme I was beginning to explore with Nico. And as I’ve said before, Nico Holmes is also inspired by a real life dear friend of mine, who is also wealthy (but not a billionaire lol) and sacrificed a lot for his siblings. Remy’s power came more from his physical presence and strength but it was interesting for me to write how he used his “street power” to navigate his life.
Leader Haven might be the exception, he really loves no one but himself. He’s a megalomaniac who is using religion to control others for his own benefit. I tend to redeem my male character but  Leader Haven is beyond redemption, he’s plain evil lol. Thank you for reading Haven, so glad you are enjoying it and thanks for this awesome ask! Sorry this is sooo long though!
